This is a set of the first 5 progressive Modules PLUS Ensemble book 1 for the Learn The Harp series. All books are spiral bound for ease with turning pages and printed in full color using color coding in earlier books to help make learning easier. Module 1 gets you set up for success at the harp and Modules 2-5 each contain 12 lessons exercises, music theory/note reading lessons, and a song. The Ensemble book allows you to play a part at your level with other harps or other instruments, either in person or online with our free virtual harp ensemble.
Module 1 reviews the basics of music, such as notes, beats, and measures. You’ll also learn all about the different types of harps and how to care for and maintain your instrument, like how to replace strings and tune your harp. You will get tips on how to use the online part of this curriculum, such as instructional videos and live feedback sessions, and how to get the most out of your practice times. And finally, you’ll learn how to arrange your practice space and position your instrument and yourself to achieve the best results in your harp playing. There are no sharps or flats in this module, so everything can be played on a harp with or without levers or pedals.
Module 2 teaches how to place your hands on the harp strings and properly pluck them to make the best sound. You will also learn how to read the music and interpret the rhythms of the notes while playing one hand at a time, developing good hand position and creating muscle memory. Module 3 teaches how to add harmonies to your music by playing complementary notes at the same time in each hand. You will continue to grow your understanding of how to read music and rhythms while building up your muscle memory as your hands learn to make the different shapes commonly found in harp music. There are no sharps or flats in this module, so everything can be played on a harp with or without levers or pedals.
Module 4 teaches you to increase your musical skills as you learn to play with dynamics (loud and soft), change the tempo (speed), and add in lever or pedal changes to get sharps. Grow your understanding of chords so you can add even more interest to your music.
Module 5 helps you take your harp playing up a notch as you play in multiple keys, using both sharps and flats. Learn how to play faster notes such as 16th and 32nd notes while improving your understanding of rhythms and learning to read groups of notes together, recognizing patterns in the music. Finally, add embellishments to your music such as grace notes, accents, and beautiful rolled chords to impress your friends.
Ensemble Book 1 contains 4 traditional pieces arranged in ensembles. Play music with other harps using these 4-part ensemble pieces. Each song includes a full score and 4 leveled parts, with some options for playing with only 3 harps, so everyone can participate no matter their experience level or harp size. Play with Harpli’s virtual ensemble online or put together your own local group. You can even have other instruments cover some of the parts!
